RP: Anakin's New Friend

"And mine along with it." Like he needs anymore excitement in his life.

He begins to walk down the hall towards the Council Rooms, trusting Anakin to fall into step with him.

[I'm guessing from the initial spawn of this thread (i.e. the TFLN portion) that we're going with Siri being alive at this point? Obi is a big fan of Siri not dying. And now I want to know what would've happened if Siri and Satine ever met.]

After a moment's consideration, Obi-Wan decides he still wants to know, "Why the alcohol?"

Because that's the more important part of it really, for him, right now. What occurred because of the drinking can be dealt with once the reasons for it have been explained.

"We were..." he shrugs, "sharing war stories." He's not even sure whose idea it was to have a drink or three. Probably something more like mutual unspoken agreement. "It seemed appropriate."

Well, the first drink had. Sort of raising a glass to those who had died.

[Retcon'ing = love. Also, I was reading up on the Jedi on Wookieepedia once, and apparently casual sex is technically allowed: "Although Jedi were not required to be chaste as well, many Jedi were abstinent if not outright celibate, due to sex being considered self-indulgence and an unnecessary act."]

Obi-Wan nods in understanding. "A drink or two on such an occasion is appropriate. But to drink enough to..." vague gesture with the fork... "isn't. Not really. And with her still a Padawan, and you a Knight? That could end up being tricky business."

His tone is casual throughout the whole speech, and it's more conversational than anyting. At any rate, he hopes it comes off like a very concerned friend who is glad that things didn't take a turn for the worst. He's already berated Anakin many times in the past about the whole non-attachment thing, so he's going to let that one go this time around.

"To be fair it was Whyren's Reserve."

As for the other part, there's a hint of a wince. "It's not like we didn't each other when I was still a Padawan."

He goes back to his food for a minute, focusing there instead. "It just...felt good to...be with someone who understood."

And that's why this particular indiscretion didn't happen with Padme. She hasn't seen the same things he has.

He doesn't want her to see the things he has. Ever.

Obi-Wan's smile is slightly wry, slightly amused.

"Because Corellian Whiskey excuses all manner of sins," he teases lightly. "At least it happened while you were both here on Coruscant, and not out in the field."

And as for finding comfort with someone who understood, "I can appreciate your reasons for allowing it to happen."

Force knows he's been tempted to find someone and do something similar, but he'd never admit it.

Completely guileless, "I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the label on the bottle said." But Obi-Wan's reaction is something he can be comfortable with.

So he can go back to his food for real and in between bites, "I wouldn't have done it," he waves vaguely in the direction space, "out there, you know." That would have put people around him, that he cares about, and yes that includes the damn clones in jeopardy.

But back here on Coruscant, where the populace is so insulated from the war they can go about their daily lives without even thinking about it so much, there's a certain release of tension you don't even realize you've been holding on to for months. Which had certainly made things last night happen more easily.

"Well, that's comforting," he replies to the never-do-it-on-a-mission statement. "Just, be careful." And he means that in so many more ways than the obvious "don't get caught."

He focuses on his own breakfast for a bit before adding, off-handed, "And be careful who you're texting next time." A beat. "Who were you trying to reach, anyway? Barriss, I assume?"

Good thing his hair has grown out so Obi-Wan can't see his eartips turn pinkish. "We were just agreeing on the subject, Master. I don't think you have to worry about it becoming a recurring theme."

Not with Barriss anyway.

He might not be able to see Anakin's eartips, but he can sense the other man's general feelings through the Force. Obi-Wan may be slightly amused by Anakin's embarrassment, but only slightly.

"Okay," he concedes. "And if there's ever a next time, I hope you'll be able to confide in me directly, instead of by accident."

He polishes off the rest of the omelet and wipes his mouth. Anakin deserves a reprieve from the conversation so he adds, "How did your last mission go? I haven't had a chance to review the report yet."

And, of course, he means in general, since details shouldn't really be discussed in public.

Another thing he probably should have already mentioned before now. But he'd half expected it to be brought up in the briefing that was canceled.

"It was successful," he allows. "But-..." he looks up at Obi-Wan, all blue-eyed earnestness now, genuinely curious of the response he'll get now that he's thought to ask the question. It hadn't occurred to him when he'd taken Dia to the Council. "You didn't feel anything...strange? Right before I got back?"

Was he the only one who'd sensed her arrival or was it only that h'd been on planet when it had happened?

Obi-Wan thinks for a moment, reviewing the last few days in his mind.

"Nothing more than usual, what with this blasted war going on," he says finally. "I did know when you finally touched down on-planet, and that you'd picked someone up, but nothing terribly out of sorts."

And with the Dark Side clouding so much for the Jedi right now, possibly only Masters Yoda and Windu would sense anything more than what Obi-Wan is admitting to.

That has a flicker of disappointment before he pushes his plate aside. "I did pick someone up. I thought she was another Sith-"

He pauses.

"-well, she kind of is but not like Ventress," for instance.

Apparently we've gone from 'make Obi-Wan pay for dinner' day to 'make Obi-Wan confused' day.

He's sorry for the disappointment, but it can't be helped. Obi-Wan does manage not to roll his eyes at the admission of picking someone up, however the grin that was about to blossom and joke about picking up pathetic life forms both die on his lips as the word "Sith" emerges from Anakin's mouth.

Obi-Wan opts for propping his head up with two fingers as he squeezes his eyes shut. "You thought she was another Sith so you brought her home with you?"

He's clearly exasperate and unsure of what to really say at this point.

"I didn't think so. She claimed it herself. And she helped put down a few battle droids." So at least there's one thing in her favor, right?

"It's just...she also claims to be from a couple thousand years ago." And yes, Obi-Wan, he knows exactly how crazy he sounds. "So I thought the Masters would want to see her." He manages to raise his chin with that last part, a little defiantly.

Obi-Wan puts his hand down with a sigh and just stares at Anakin. "And what, exactly, did they say?"

They'll deal with how crazy Anakin sounds after Obi-Wan determines if he needs to coerce his companion into the Temple's psych ward.

"They agreed that there's something different about her...in the Force I mean. And they put her on probation, basically. She said she was trained by a Sith but she doesn't actually want to be one."

So you know, maybe she could make a valuable ally, right?

[master_obiwan]

"Right." He doesn't look like he entirely believes it, but he's willing to wait until he meets her until he passes his final judgement.

However, "Go back to the part where she's supposedly from a thousand years ago. How...?" Cue vague, flailing gesture.

"That's what she says. Shocked when I told her I could count the number of Sith in the galaxy on one hand." Like, literally shocked. He'd gotten no sense of deception about it.

"And I mean...that's sort of how I found her. We were wrapping up our mission and I sensed this...I don't know, ripple in the Force? And then a dark presence out of nowhere. So I started tracking her."

Because just leaving would have been wrong, of course.

"A ripple in the force? Any other sensation to go with it?" He tugs thoughtfully at his beard.

"And a thousand years is too recent to really be the old Old Republic," he mutters, more to himself than anything. "In fact, that would be about the time of the Ruusan Reformation and the apparent destruction of the Sith..." This would warrant some sort of research in the archives; now that they're free from any missions, he has nothing better to do, at any rate.

"Did she have a name?"

"I don't know. It was a surprise."

He sighs, "Dia'ndria Starfall. It didn't seem to raise any eyebrows on the Council." So despite Anakin's ignorance of history, at least that implied that she wasn't famous enough he should've recognized it.

"I don't recognize the name, either. I take it she's still at the Temple?"

He's torn between wanting to go brush up on the particulars of the time period and running off to question this Sithling. At the same time, they're here at Dex's; perhaps the Besalisk has heard of any time travellers popping up around the galaxy?

"She's got a room there for now. I guess she'll move somewhere else eventually." Though it might be funny to see her stay there long term. Maybe the Temple would rub off on her a bit.

"You're not going to go interrogate her, are you?"

[master_obiwan]

A room at the Temple. Lovely. "Well, her permanent residence will be highly dependent upon how she conducts herself."

Raised brow, "Eventually, though I wouldn't quite call it an interrogation. Not really. I just have a few-" thousand- "questions to ask her. I'm curious to get a sense of what time period she believes she's from."

"Where better for the Council to keep an eye on her?" without actually imprisoning her.

He leans back in the booth and stretches his legs out (just to Obi-Wan's side so he's not actually kicking the other man in the shins), "she has a double-bladed lightsaber," he says. You know, Obi-Wan, like the Sith you killed on Naboo. "She doesn't wear robes though," which even many of Sith seem to wear darker versions of what the Jedi do. "Too many layers."

[Oh good. I was thinking that I may have lost the tone a bit after so long. <3 And I can totes hear Anakin :D And Obi's comment about the lightsabre would be known by Anakin, as it comes from the handbook.]


He does frown a bit at the memory that is conjured at the mention of a double-bladed 'sabre, but Obi-Wan simply sighs. "Unfortunately, there is nothing inherently evil in that design for a lightsabre," he admits. "It's just not widely used by the Jedi anymore, and has somehow been appropriated by Dark Side enthusiasts. And as for her style of dress...." a shrug, "having only encountered two Sith in my lifetime, and not being familiar with older practices, I can't offer any commentary on that."

He pauses as FLO returns to refill their drinks. Once she's gone, he adds, "Really, the only way to figure out who and what she is, is to - as you so indelicately put it - interrogate her."
