Title: Babysitting
Prompt: 003. Flu
Character: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Fandom: Star Wars
Word Count: 393
Rating: PG
Warnings None.
Disclaimer George Lucas owns Star Wars. Lucas is King. If he doesn't like me pilfering his characters, he can have his merchandise back.
Summary: Obi-Wan gets a crash course in babysitting.
Author's Notes: I blame the nascient Sam Flynn voice in my head for taking seriously the ultimatum that the 'Wan had to write his prompt first before I'd do anything with him for this. I told Sam to poke the Jedi into writng his prompt and damned if he didn't do it.

Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon were enjoying some downtime at the Temple. They had returned from a mission on the Outer Rim and found that there were no pressing issues that needed to be dealt with, so Qui-Gon suggested some volunteer work within the Temple and, if the opportunity presented itself, volunteer work around Coruscant. Obi-Wan decided to help out with the Younglings, and after several days, Qui-Gon joined him. Looking after the younger children had been just as hectic and heart-stopping as any mission the fifteen-year-old Padawan had been on yet, and he was a little jealous that his Master had swooped down and stolen the job of caring for the infants out from under Obi-Wan's nose.
Obi-Wan's miffed jealousy didn't have time to take hold, however, as Qui-Gon summoned his apprentice to the crèche during naptime a few days later. Once Obi-Wan had made sure his kids were sleeping peacefully and called in a replacement to keep watch, he headed over to see what Qui-Gon had needed.
"A two children have come down with an illness and won't stop fussing, Obi-Wan," Qui-Gon said after greeting his Padawan at the door to the crèche.
"Let me guess," Obi-Wan replied. "You get one down and start on the other, only to have the first one wake up."
Qui-Gon gave Obi-Wan a bemused smile. "Exactly."
"Where is the other?" Obi-Wan asked. He headed to the crib off of Qui-Gon's nod and looked down at the swaddled infant. It was a young Mon Calamarian girl, and Obi-Wan smiled as he thought of his friend Bant, who was currently attending a 'Saber lesson in the gym. Apparently Qui-Gon knew that if anyone could care for a Calamarian, it would be Obi-Wan. The young apprentice reached down to picked her up. He glanced back at Qui-Gon as the elder Jedi called out to him.
"One more thing, Obi-Wan: you may want to be careful..." was as far as the Jedi Master could get. Obi-Wan turned back to his charge as he lifted her out of the crib, and her crying choked out into a sobbing cough. The ripple of her eye membranes warned him a little too late, and the choking sputter that preceded the infant's vomit as it caught Obi-Wan's neck and chest accompanied the rest of Qui-Gon's warning: "As the healers suspect these two have the flu..."
