TM: Control

He's always associated the colour red with betrayal and losing control, which means he's not surprised when the red glow of lava catches his eye behind his former best friend. He's not even surprised when he looks into the yellow, blood-shot eyes of the young Sith. Nor does he feel the pang of loss as he takes Anakin out of the equation, deeming the man he knew to be another casualty of this Sith-begotten war.
It's just him and Vader and he has no idea when he lost control over this being standing before him, the empty shell now filled with darkness and rage.
Dully, he's aware of the rising heat, as 'sabres clash, parry, parry, lunge, swipe, miss...
The redness eats away at him as it begins to overwhelm his vision, encroaching on his senses. Betrayal was a certainty as soon as he had stepped off that transport, but who would betray whom in the end he didn't know.
Vader's blade catches a flare, turning the blade pink for an instant. In seconds, Obi-Wan's mind has materialized in the past as he watches another red blade silence a noble green one, followed by the frantic sense of vengeance from a solid blue. He feels himself slipping down a familiar slope as the need to killhurtmaim the monster that threatened to destroy his heart overtakes him.
As his memories come to a head with the destruction of the blue blade, Obi-Wan finds himself once more hanging from a precipice.
Instead of holding onto an exposed bolt, dangling over a melting pit, he's standing over the charred body of Anakin Skywalker. The loss hits him now, and he shouts in frustrated rage at the fleeting phantasm of his friend, "YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!!!"
The hurt and anguish that had been collecting and pooling since he had viewed those security tapes coalesces into helplessness and surfaces in a burst of silent tears, and a sorrowful wail of "YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO DESTROY THE SITH, NOT JOIN THEM!"
He doesn't hear the retaliation from Anakin as grief muffles everything.
He wants to fall to his knees, wrap his arms around himself and cry tears that span a lifetime of losing control to the Sith, who have taken and destroyed everything he has ever held dear.
But he'd be damned if the Sith made him lose control like that once more and he won't let them dictate his life ever again. He'd die first.
So, instead of giving up control, he takes it firmly in hand, brandishes it like a shield and walks away, pausing only to pick up the fallen blade of a man he had loved unto death.

[ooc: No, I'm not trying to guilt you into feeling sorry for Obi-Wan instead of Anakin at the end of ROTS. Whyever do you ask?]
